If the Sunnis have read the Quran properly it wouldn’t have been hard to know that even “believers” are given Salawat upon them in the Quran, so what would their response be?
2:156
الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return”:-
2:157
They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.
أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ
